Dr Lisa Gusciora

Clinical Psychologist (BSc Hons, MSc, DClinPsych)

I am a Clinical Psychologist and an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society. My qualifications include a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Psychology, a Master’s degree and a Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I have worked in public and private health settings in both inpatient and community services. I have worked with a wide range of people, including adults, children and adolescents.

I aim to create a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship that provides a space for people to explore their challenges and process their experience. I enjoy assisting clients to develop a more compassionate understanding of themselves and provide the skills to move forward with their life. I work predominantly using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Schema Therapy frameworks. I also hold attachment theory at the centre of my work and use a relationship-based approach to perinatal distress.

I am particularly interested in supporting women who experience anxiety and depression during pregnancy, and the postpartum period, birth trauma and adjustment to early parenting. I am a registered Circle of Security Parenting facilitator and a registered Medicare Pregnancy Support Counsellor. I have completed further training in Perinatal and Infant Mental Health with the Centre for Perinatal Psychology, and I am an Accredited Practitioner with the Centre for Perinatal Excellence. I also enjoy working with clients who have experienced trauma, including single event trauma as well as clients who wish to explore how childhood experiences have impacted on their current patterns of functioning. I am passionate about normalising psychological distress and recognise that most people become ‘stuck’ at various points in life but believe that our difficulties do not define us.
